Halloween was on a Friday this year, so the staff at Hinsdale Central truly “brought their fire” with their Halloween costumes. Every educational department in the school participated in an annual tradition of choosing a theme and dressing up accordingly.
“My math teacher, Ms. Anderson, was wearing a number two and asked us to guess what she was. I couldn’t guess because the other math teachers weren’t there, but it turns out they were all the number pi; it was so creative,” said Ayah Sabki, senior.
Students had a blast seeing their teachers in costume. Whether it was the numerical pi value for the math department, bowling for the business department, or condiments for the lunch team; each costume stood out to students.
Not only did the staff get in costume but even the animals too. Hinsdale Central’s emotional support dog paid a visit to the school this Halloween dressed as a yellow daisy. She got so much love from the students.
“When I saw the dog in the flower costume I got cuteness aggression; she is so sweet and rocks the look,” said Lia Malhes, sophomore.
In fact, pets have participated in Halloween greatly this year. Hinsdale Central’s annual pet costume contest was a hit. Students submitted photos of all their pets in costume and the winner ended up being Mabel, a member of the Mehalek family at the school. Mabel’s grandma costume deserved that win.
The physical education department held many Halloween activities dressed in a disco theme, which students found very fitting. Some popular department costume themes were the science department in their Super Mario character outfits and the World Language department in the theme of the card game, Uno.
“I laughed so hard when I saw the hallway monitors dressed as escort’s, to me they won the costume contest,” said Dilnaz Rasha, senior.
The hallway monitors and security wore large printouts of escort passes over their neck and as that is what they usually do people found it hilarious.
This Halloween, the Hinsdale Central staff used their creative ideas and costumes to lighten the Halloween spirit throughout the halls. Each department came together and chose a theme that related to them and put a smile on students’ faces.
