The Hinsdale Central girls golf team finished fourth at Hickory Point Golf Club this past weekend with a combined total of 663 points. Topping the podium were Highland Park (661), New Trier (650), and state champion Mt. Prospect (643). The team was led by a seventh place, all-state finish from junior Rosanna Lederhausen.
Also representing the Red Devils were juniors Colleen Ahern (+21) and Jackie Bruns (+24), seniors Ali Gibson (+39) and Samantha Kritzer (+43), and sophomore Cailee Beisswanger (+45). The team finished Friday’s round in fifth place, and moved into fourth with a strong finish from Colleen Ahern on Saturday’s back nine. “Going even on the back nine was a goal of mine, and the three birdies really helped,” Ahern said.
The golfers were satisfied with the fourth place finish, though a little disappointed because their standing was a mere three points away from Highland Park. “The final results were pretty much as expected. Personally, I was elated that we got to state and was hoping for a top three finish,” Ahern said. Difficult course conditions on Friday forced golfers to readjust their expectations for the round.
With Lederhausen, Ahern, and Bruns, and Beisswanger returning for next year, the team has its eyes set on the state championship. “There are very strong teams that are losing most of their low scores to graduation, and the fact that we are keeping a good foundation is the key to success next year,” Ahern said. “There is no doubt in my mind that we can get back to state next year and place at least in the top three, if not win the whole tournament.”
