The movie “A Complete Unknown” was released in theaters on Dec. 25, 2024. The movie is directed by James Mangold and features actors such as Timothée Chalamet, Monica Barbaro, and Elle Fanning amongst other prominent people. The film is a biographical film following the life of Bob Dylan, a folk music singer.
The movie captures Dylan’s early life and his rise to fame, as well as the impact that Bob Dylan had on music and culture in the 1960s. The film showcases his unique artistry and voice which influenced other artists during this time period.
The biopic is not only about folk music but also reveals the social issues that were prevalent during the 1960s. The movie includes glimpses of the struggles citizens in the United States had during the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War.
Students at Hinsdale Central enjoyed watching the film.
“I thought it was really incredible to see more of the music industry and the background of Bob Dylan’s life,” said Josie Braden, a freshman. “I got to understand Bob Dylan more and how he was as a person, which I didn’t personally love, but I did enjoy the high quality music, scenes and backgrounds.”
Some students reported that they listen to Bob Dylan’s music.
“I listened to some of Dylan’s songs before watching the movie, but I have definitely played more of his songs after watching ‘A Complete Unknown,’” said Ryan Baltazar, a junior.
Students loved Timothée Chalamet’s role in “A Complete Unknown.”
“I have heard that Timothée Chalamet prepared five years in advance to immerse himself into Bob Dylan’s life. I think he did a really good job, as his voice sounded almost exactly like [Bob Dylan’s],” said Kyra Arnouk, a senior. “Chalamet definitely knew how big of a role this was for him, and I think he portrayed it how people wanted him to.”
The movie “A Complete Unknown” will be streaming on Peacock and the platform Starz.
