“Squid Game” Season 2 came out on Dec. 26, 2024. It follows player 456 and his journey back into the games. This season only has seven episodes compared to the first season’s nine episodes.
Player 456 appeared in the first season as the protagonist who had received an invitation to compete in games with a cash prize. The Korean drama is a Netflix original that is both dubbed in English and includes English subtitles. The synopsis includes following various characters who accept traditionally, childish games, but risk their lives if they lose.
After surviving harrowing attempts his life in season one, player 456 returns to the games in season two in hopes of stopping them.
“This season was good but the first season was a lot better,” said Teddy O’Hara, senior.
This season focused more on the inner workings of the games, including different guards’ backstories, and player 456’s journey to try and stop the competition. Personally, I couldn’t really connect with the characters this season in comparison to season one.
“The deaths were not as sad as season one,” said Jack Carlin, senior.
Season three is coming out later in 2025. People predict that it will follow what happens after the final scene in the second season and possibly include a few more games.
According to Game Rant, the three games might be related to the kids game/nursery rhyme Jack and Jill, due to a teaser at the end of “Squid Game” Season 2. The two other games are theorized to be monkey bars and human chess because of art on the wall in the resting area seen throughout the second season. Similarly, in season one, there was art on the walls, and that art depicted games they played later on.
“I’m excited for season three,” said Nate Maydanchik, senior. “I want to see how this series ends.”
Overall, season two was good, but I liked the first season more. Season one did a good job of building characters and making the viewers actually feel for the characters. Season two didn’t do an effective job of creating these emotional connections, but it was still enjoyable to watch.
