The annual Screen Actor Guild Awards took place on Feb. 23 in the Shrine Auditorium located in Los Angeles, California. These awards go for actors and actresses who starred in the film industries for movies or shows. According to USA Today, the show was hosted by Kristen Bell, famous for being the narrative voice for the TV Show ‘Gossip Girl.’ She started the awards by singing a different lyric song with the rhythm and tone of ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman,’ which is a song in the movie ‘Frozen’.
A famous actress Demi Moore was applauded for being the best actress and she came on stage to give a heartfelt speech, as mentioned by USA Today. Her latest movie was ‘The Substance,’ a horror sci-fi film which earned 77.1 million dollars in box office, according to The Numbers.
According to AP News, other winners for these awards were Timothée Chalamet for outstanding male actor, Zoe Saldaña for best supporting actress, ‘The Fall Guy’ for best action performance by a stunt ensemble, ‘Conclave,’ for best ensemble cast and many more.
Many people were expecting that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande would win one award, but they didn’t. Their musical movie ‘Wicked’ got nominated for ‘Best Ensemble Cast,’ but did not win the award.
“I loved the Wicked, and music in general,” said Jennifer Cave, social worker. “I loved all the singing, they are all such talented people.”
Sana Asif, senior, agrees.
“I really like Ariana and Cynthia, their movie was amazing,” Asif said. “They had really good chemistry throughout the movie and their connections were on point.”
Both of them sat together at the awards, cheering and applauding for each winner and nominee.
“Even after the movie, all of their interviews seemed like they were great friends and the way they interacted with each other was nice,” said Kacy Liu, senior. “They should’ve won at least one award I believe.”
