Wrestlers dominate on Senior Night
On Jan. 26, the Red Devil wrestlers closed out their regular season with a 52-6 victory over York on senior night. The night began with the freshmen and JV wrestlers competing, followed by a recognition ceremony for each graduating senior that included pictures and remembering some of each wrestler’s best attributes.
At the conclusion of the recognition ceremony, the house lights went down and a lone spotlight shone on the large mat where the varsity matchups would take place. Plenty of family and friends of both York and Central came to cheer on the seniors, with a sizeable showing from Red Devil Nation as well.
The energy of the night carried the Red Devils to victory after victory on the mat as the score continued to run up, leaving an overwhelmed York team far behind. As the meet drew to a close, spirits were high, but feelings still bittersweet as many of the wrestlers favored their last victory as a Red Devil. The best of the program will now continue on to the postseason where some hope to make an appearance at the IHSA state wrestling meet.
