The Hinsdale Central Art Club plans on replacing the student artwork on the wall of the Deans’ Office with a painted mural of different images from the history of the school. Before this, the artwork in the Deans’ Office consisted of pictures made by students in art classes that would be switched out periodically.
Mrs. Potokar, the leader of art club, is happy that the Art Club is able to better Central. “The idea for the historical mural came from [Art department head] Mrs. Milas, who wanted the Art Club to assist in creating it. We are happy to help,” Potokar said.
The student leaders of Art Club are also excited to be painting the mural. “We had so much fun making the Character Counts devil wall art last year,” said junior Arti Patel. “We like being able to make Central nicer by means of art.”
This isn’t the first time that Art Club has decorated the school using their talents. “Besides from the Character Counts paintings, we’ve also done chalk drawings for Illinois Art Week,” said junior Christine Shen. “Art Club is a pretty chill club for people that love art, but we’re also really involved in projects around the school.”
Meanwhile, Potokar is currently researching historical images at the Hinsdale reference library and has already selected an old photograph of Central’s first female graduates as one of the images to grace the wall. “Art Club hopes to start working on [the project] by the end of the month,” Potokar said.
