On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, Student Council Executive Board elections were conducted outside the cafeteria during all lunches. Originally, students elected juniors Redmond Martin and Dan Andrade to be the 2012-2013 social chairmen. However, after numerous reports of cheating and unfair activities across the social chair elections, a revote occurred.
“We decided to have a re-election because there was some unfair voting behaviors,” said Bobby Buddig, Student Council Executive Board president. “There were people voting two or more times.”
The re-election, which took place on April 5, yielded different results. Juniors Jack Kengott and Louis Skibicki were elected the official social chairmen for the 2012-2013 school year.
“As a school that prides ourselves on character we decided the revote was the fairest,” Buddig said. “We didn’t want leaders of our school to be voted on unfairly.”
The decision for a revote was not quickly made. Buddig, Vice President Joe Morris, Student Activities Director Mrs. Pam Kalafut, student council sponsor Mrs. Bronke, and Principal Mr. Michael McGrory made the decision together.
“This was a very stressful decision. The student council wanted to make sure we had Mr. McGrory’s support,” Buddig said.
After meeting with the principal, the student council senators had an emergency meeting to discuss what the fairest option was. “We had an hour and half meeting and then came to the conclusion to have the reelection,” Buddig said.
