Discovery of shotgun shell led to shelter-in-place

At 11:45 a.m., Central students and staff received notification to remain in their classes for a shelter-in-place procedure. Staff and students were advised to not leave these areas until the shelter-in-place was lifted, which occurred at roughly 1:30 p.m.

The e-mail sent to staff only stated that the building was handling an emergency situation with no further details released.

Unlike a lockdown, a shelter-in-place allows teachers to continue teaching while the investigation is underway.

Class schedules will resume with shortened periods of 30 minutes until the end of the school day.

Update:

Additional details were released that includes that a student brought a shotgun shell to the school and was detained. No injuries and no weapons found.
