Science Olympiad team finishes third at State Tournament
The Science Olympiad Team finished third at the state tournament held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on April 17-18. This is the team’s best finish in the last four years in which they placed fourth three times in a row.
The team competed in 28 events, bringing home 12 medals in total.
“This was an amazing season,” said Coach Kathleen Gabric. “This group of students worked together and supported each other from September through April.” [As seen in D86 Press Release]
In addition to a third place finish for the team, many individuals were awarded first place medals. Those awarded gold medals were Priya Pillai and Brandon Weller in Green Generation, Brandon Weller and Julia Clarke in Fossils, and Kiril Kolev and Navid Shoaee in Hydrogeology.
“Next year will be a rebuilding year,” Gabric said. “We are losing a very strong senior base, but the determination to succeed next year can already be seen in our upcoming student leadership.”
The third place finish gives the team both recognition and room to improve at the state tournament next year.
