Making a name of its own: Entrepreneurship Club

Rachel Brugge

One of the newest clubs at the school, Entrepreneurship Club, meets on Mondays in room 231.

On Monday, Sept. 20, Entrepreneurship Club hosted its very first interest meeting in room 231 where junior Nicole Hu, the club’s founder, explained the club’s mission and what entrepreneurship is all about to potential members.

“An entrepreneur is someone who is creating something, an idea, service or product that is needed in our society, and is thinking outside of the box and focusing on innovation to create or solve a problem,” Hu said.

Hu created the club to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs from Hinsdale Central. The club is also sponsored by Ms. Leah Giarratano, who teaches investment planning, marketing and consumer economics.

Hu said she was surprised by the lack of entrepreneurship related activities at the activities fair and on the club roster at Central this past year, and realized that there was a great number of students interested in entrepreneurship and a demand for the club itself.

“I wanted to create an outlet for them to express their interest and join a community of like-minded people,” Hu said.

The club meets every other Monday morning in Ms. Giarritano’s room, 231. Meetings consist of discussions, guest speakers, and interactive games relating to entrepreneurship.

Hu also said she hopes in the second semester that students will be able to create their own product or idea and go through the entire business process that an entrepreneur would.
