Celebrating Education Week at Central
On Nov. 14-18, Hinsdale Central celebrated American Education week.
American Education week is an opportunity to appreciate and uplift everyone that contributes to public education.
“I gave a lot of my appreciation to staff that may go under the radar,” said Jimena Jimenez, senior. “The janitors and lunch ladies work hard every day and affect everyone at Central.”
Anticipating Thanksgiving break the following week, Hinsdale Central prioritized showing appreciation and thanks to faculty and teachers.
“I know when I checked my mailbox, it made me feel good and it makes other people feel good knowing that they filled other people’s cups,” said Liza Tazelaar, physical education teacher. “I think we can do more to celebrate students, staff, and everyone in this building, more positivity is what everyone needs.”
Many people within the school helped be a part of making a positive experience.
“The building administration team gave up their parking spots in the front of the building to staff members all week and arranged for two different food trucks to come during lunch periods,” said Sally Phillip, Student Council Co-Sponsor and activities director. “They also had a coffee bar each morning for staff and set up a relaxation room for staff to work in during prep periods; I think the only thing missing were dress days for the staff.”
Student Council also had a role in presenting gifts and treats to give the staff.
“Student Council delivered a snack and a drink to each staff member based on their request,” said Kristen Bronke, Student Council Co-Sponsor. “We delivered door tags to every department office and sent an email to all staff members asking them to complete a door tag. On Wednesday of American Education Week, Student Council members met after school to divy up all of the snacks and drinks.”
On Friday, Nov. 18, Hinsdale Central gave out four turkeys, sponsored by the local grocery store Kramers, to Hinsdale Central Staff.
“I think it’s amazing and I would love to win one,” Tazelaar said.
Pumpkin pies will be given out this week to all faculty and staff.
