On Monday, March 25, students and staff will begin their first day of spring break. Students and staff will either be traveling out of town or enjoying a “staycation.”
“I’m going to have a great spring break full of sleep and hanging out with friends,” said Campbell Jones, senior.
Students find that enjoying their downtime after a stressful week of school is needed.
“I have like seven tests this week,” Jones said. “Even in gym, we’re still doing social emotional work, so it’s not really a free class.”
Other students, however, will be traveling out of town for the week.
“I’m going with the school orchestra to perform in Austria,” said Nuha Shadi Khan, junior. “[We’re going to] go sightseeing for the ‘Sound of Music.’ Then, we’re gonna perform in two different places.”
The orchestra is taking 74 students and chaperones. However, students will have limited time for traditional tourist activities due to their performances.
“With all the concerts…we probably won’t have much time [for activities],” Shadi Khan said.
In general, students find that traveling can improve their mental health. Specifically, they find that spring break gives them a chance to explore the world beyond their classmates and classes.
“Going to a new place gives you more experience in life than staying in school for an extra week,” Jones said.
Some think that one week isn’t enough to do an entire vacation and wish for more time off to relax.
“I would like to have [another] week off, so I can wake up late and not do anything instead of going somewhere and immediately going straight back to school,” said Mariam Rizvi, senior.
