On Saturday, Nov. 29, the Chicago Bears fired their head coach Matt Eberflus. He was hired in 2022, and his leadership has been questioned due to the team’s performance, especially their lack of success in terms of wins.
The Bears have been rebuilding, but many fans and analysts are critical of his coaching decisions, particularly because of their underperformance in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Joey Hagen, junior, says that he has been keeping up with the Bears’ coaches, and players.
“Anytime the Bears play, I’m usually watching,” Hagen said. “They have not done the best job these past couple seasons. I’ve been watching them for six years, and I can’t wait to see what they do with their new team and coach.”
Senior, Anthony Hui, has a strong option on the Bears team.
“I am so happy that the head coach got fired,” Hui said. “He let down the team, and the players, and ruined Justin Fields’ career.”
Hui also mentioned he hopes to see progress in the team with the coach being gone.
Some, like junior James Lane, don’t follow sports and football.
“I heard the coach is leaving, but it doesn’t really affect me like it does some of my friends.” Lane said. “I know their team is not that good anymore, so hopefully this new coach in the meantime can help them get better.”
According to The New York Times, the Bears’ chances of making the playoffs remain less than 1%, but some students stay hopeful.
