On Friday Nov. 22nd, the Universal studios movie Wicked came out in theaters. Based on “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wicked” has been a hit play in the musical industry ever since the 2000s. I loved the play, so I decided to go see the movie with a couple of my friends.
“It is so long but definitely worth the watch,” said Mia Herman, senior. I had heard good things about it and the advertisements for the movie were pretty much everywhere I looked so I was excited.”
The movie was very long, around three hours, but I thought it was so worth it. Besides the fact that some of my favorite actors were in it like Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, the production was great.
The musical aspect of movies like this sometimes turn me away, but the acting, singing, choreography and costumes were all perfect and the plot carried the movie keeping me invested.
I went with two of my senior friends, Katelyn Hernandez and Laila Baridi. Katelyn had always liked the play Wicked and has always liked the musical aspect of plays.
“All the songs combined with the choreography was making it hard not to sing-a-long, it did not feel like three hours at all,” Henrnandez said.
However, my other friend Laila has never been a fan of plays and did not like that aspect of the movie.
“I loved the movie, but the ending made me so upset. It was a huge cliffhanger,” Baridi said.
Overall, I would say that this movie did a great job of encapsulating the Broadway production.
The special effects, costumes and unforgettable cast made this perfect worth the watch. Whether you’re someone who enjoys musicals or not, I think this is a must see film for the year and is sure to earn tons of awards.
