On Sunday, Jan. 5th CBS and Paramount Plus aired the 82nd Golden Globes. This ceremony is considered the start of the award season and is a major event for Oscar contenders.
The host this year was Nikki Glaser, famous for her comedy skit on Netflix’s recent “The Roast of Tom Brady.” Glaser received major applause for her performance at the Golden Globes, which incorporated the perfect amount of comedy and jokes.
“I really enjoyed the show Nikki Glaser put on, she was very funny and was entertaining the crowd the entire time,” said Matipa Marimbe, senior.
There were awards ranging from best performance to best motion pictures. The show is set up like a formal gala with award presentations on stage with celebrities seated around the ballroom.
There were many first time award winners and surprising winners. The biggest awards are typically considered the Best Picture (either drama musical or comedy), Best Series and individual acting awards. Some of the most influential wins was Fernanda Torres pulling off Golden Globes biggest upset by winning best actress in a motion picture drama Im Still Here against Mikey Madison’s incredible performance in Anora and Cynthia Erivo for Wicked.
Additionally, Demi Moore won her first-ever acting award for her role in The Substance.
But arguably some of the biggest news of the night was Zendaya’s rock on her hand.
“I was shocked to hear that Zendaya and Tom Holland got engaged,” said Lillian Luct, senior.
The night was filled with celebrities, awards and tradition all along with lots of laughs and a few tears.
“Each year watching the golden globes is filled with excitement and surprise, watching it reminds me just how talented some of these people really are,” said Brigid Noonan, senior.
As Hollywood continues to evolve, this year’s award show once again reminded us why we gather to celebrate the magic of television and cinema.
