On November 20th, 2024, a new restaurant named Hangry Joes Hot Chicken & Wings had its grand opening in downtown La Grange, right on the corner of La Grange Road and Hillgrove Avenue. 

Hangry Joes is known for their Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and wings. They claim their food isn’t just a meal: it’s a “sensation.”  

After hearing this claim and finding out a new location had opened locally. My friends and I decided we would go check it out, and try some of their food and give it a review. 

I tried their breaded chicken wings with a mild dry rub, I would give the wings an 8/10. The mild dry rub had a good amount of heat, not too much spice, not too little spice, and the chicken was juicy and fell off the bone easily. But they came out of the kitchen way too hot because they make them fresh to order. Because the wings were so hot, they were difficult to eat, and they never really cooled off. 

I also had their fries and mac and cheese as sides, the fries dipped in their “Hangry Joes Homemade Sauce was super good, it tasted very similar to a Canes sauce, and I’d give those a 9/10, the mac and cheese on the other hand was bland and dry, and just wasn’t anything special so I’d give it a 6/10.

Senior Owen Stamer tried the “Regular Chicken Sando.” 

“I give it an 8/10, the chicken was good and the sauce on the sandwich was great, it was just a small sandwich,” Stamer said. 

He only had that sandwich, but senior Brody Petersen had the “Mega Chicken Sando.” 

“I gave the sandwich a 9/10. It was way bigger than the regular one, and I got the hot sauce on it so it had a nice kick to it. The flavor of the chicken was top notch, and the breast was juicy,” Petersen said. 

Joey Fodor, senior, had the chicken wings as well.  

“I would give them a 7/10, I wasn’t super impressed with the wings, they were good but it really wasn’t anything special. It felt like a clone to Dave’s hot chicken, which I think is way better,” Fodor said. 

The service was subpar though, the food took a long time to come out, and they forgot some items. Overall the food was good, but the service was sub-par. I would recommend it if you are a fan of hot chicken, but be prepared for a big time commitment.
