The cheering echoes through the campus halls, the plethora of bracket predictions and the topic of conversation for almost every student: March Madness has arrived, and Hinsdale Central students are ready to embrace the games.
March Madness, the annual Division 1 NCAA college basketball tournament, captivates millions across the country. For students, it’s more than just a regular tournament. It’s an event that brings school spirit to an intense level with friends gathering in classrooms, hallways and the cafe to watch the games together.
The tournament started on March 18 and continues into early April for the championship game. At Central, students are excited to watch the games and see if their bracket predictions come true.
“It’s all about the brackets,” said Owen Stamer, senior. “The thrill of watching the matches and hoping your team wins is what makes it so fun.”
The school is also embracing the event by setting up live streams on all televisions inside of the lunch room. Students and teachers have started forming around the televisions to watch the games and celebrate together. Teachers have also incorporated March Madness into their classrooms by creating bracket groups with their students to share predictions.
“I’m currently in a shared bracket group with all of our gym classes…directed by Mr Riggio,” said Nate Maydanchik, senior.
March Madness has become a unifying force on campus, where students and teachers come together to cheer for their teams.
“It’s more than just basketball…it’s a true passion for all and brings everyone together,” said Nathan Levendel, senior.
As the games continue, the energy on campus will only keep rising. With every buzzer-beater and bracket upset, the tournament is sure to keep students on their toes for the remainder of March and the start of April.
