On Friday Oct. 18 ,“Smile 2” came out, a sequel for the movie “Smile” that came out in September of 2022. “Smile 2” is an R-rated film, and the movie follows a pop star who begins experiencing terrifying and indescribable events.
You have to be above 17 to watch an R-rated film alone. For people 17 and under, you can still watch the film, you just have to be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years of age.
With scenes exploring the impact of fame and the past coming back to haunt you, the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. This movie was the same idea as the first movie, just with a different protagonist.
I watched “Smile” when it came out a couple of years ago and I loved it, so I was so excited to hear that a sequel was coming out. I asked three of my friends to come watch the movie with me, because to be honest, I don’t know if I would be able to watch that movie all alone. The first thing I would say is that the movie is rated R, and they were pretty strict in enforcing that, as they checked our ID when we entered.
I really enjoyed pretty much every aspect of the movie. Normally, sequels of movies are never as good, but this one did not disappoint.
“Everything about the sequel is just bigger, better and even more scary, which is rare,” said Katelyn Hernandez, senior.
The attention to detail, jumpscares and famous actors in the movies kept me and my friends entertained the entire time.
The pop culture elements mixed with horror was extremely well executed.
“My favorite part was watching Naomi Scott portray the main character Skye Riley,” said Jamie Konieczka, senior.
In addition to that, the last 20 minutes up until the ending left everyone in the theater on the edge of their seat, and the plot was left on an open cliffhanger.
“Now I’m even more excited for ‘Smile 3’ to come out, I can’t wait,” said Laila Baridi, senior.
Overall, I would give the movie a solid 8.9/10. The only reason it is not a 10/10 is because the ending was pretty predictable, but the twists and turns through the movie did make me question how it would resolve. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is old enough to watch it; it gets you in the spooky spirit and is sure to get your heart racing!
