The girls’ varsity basketball poms squad started their season this November, and they are ready to make this their best season yet.
The pommers are practicing multiple times a week to learn dances and improve technique.
According to Cara Tenerelli, junior, the pommers have a heavy practice schedule. “We practice from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. after school on Mondays and Wednesdays in the dance studio or in the Cafeteria when we need more space,” she said. “We also have practices every Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. to work on technique.”
Each week the pommers perform during half time at the home basketball game.
“My favorite things about poms is getting the opportunity to perform in front of my peers and show off our hard work every week at half time,” said, Corinne Smith, senior.
The major performance pommers work towards is their Pack The Place routine, which is put on during the pep rally in late February. “If we improve our technique and put on an amazing Pack The Place performance, I believe our season will be a success,” Smith said.
The pommers are both excited and nervous for this performance. “We spend a lot of time preparing our dances, and I usually get nervous right before I perform because I want to make everything perfect,” Tenerelli said.
Besides the dancing, the poms girls feel that the best part of being involved in the squad is getting to know and bond with the other girls. Poms is so fun because I love to dance, and I also get to spend time with really nice girls. We all grow so close, and the pommers are some of my best friends,” Tenerelli said.
