The boys gymnastic team is competing in state this weekend at Lincoln-Way East.
All year the gymnastics team has been preparing for state, and they have perfected their routines by working hard in the gym. Cleaning up their routines and skills will help earn back some points at the meet.
“Our main goal was to do well in sectionals and make it to state, and now that we’ve done that, it’s just to do the best that we can out of those top eight teams competing,” said Vishaal Meduri, junior.
Brian Thompson, senior, will help is team by doing well in his own routines. “For individuals my goals is to try to win on some [events],” Thompson said.
The week before state the team has lighter practices and condition less, in order to be more rested for the meet. However, the team does encounter some challenges.
“In regards to challenges, the team has had many challenges this season, such as various injuries, but there really isn’t anything stopping us from just doing our best,” Meduri said.
According to Thompson, other challenges are being consistent with routines and good competition from other schools.
“We made state because we started putting routines together with harder, cleaner tricks,” Thompson said.
