The girls’ varsity water polo team finished their season on May 12 at the sectional meet against Naperville North. Although their playoff run came to an end, the girls were still extremely proud of their season and several victories throughout.

The team finished with a 17-13-1 record, which was almost double their wins from their previous season. “We became a coherent team during the season, and were able to compete with highly ranked teams much better than ever before,” said junior Jane Kealy.

The team had practices every day before or after school, which consisted of of swimming, training, skill and ball handling drills, and scrimmages. “I feel I really improved as a player this year, and was excited to be a starter,” said junior Jill Schlais, who plays as a driver, wing, and back up goalie.

The team is excited to look forward and improve over the summer and during the next spring season. “We have a lot of talent in our current junior class, including this year’s top scorer Zoe Relias, with 79 cumulative goals. Our goal for this season was to improve with every game, and I believe we achieved that,” said coach Christopher Ortiz.

“Although we lost the sectional game, we won so much more with our team bonds and memories,” Schlais said, “We fought hard through all our games, and that’s all that matters.”
