Boys’ golf repeat as state champions

Central’s boys’  golf team captured back to back 3A state titles last weekend as they collectively shot a 603 for the tournament. New Trier was 2nd with 616.

Last season, they battled a rain and lightning filled tournament to capture their first state title in 53 years. This year, the Devils won another title in a full two day tournament, with cold, but clear weather.

“Last year the second day got rained out. They counted it just as one day. This year was a normal tournament: both days,” said Brian Dolehide (156), junior, who tied for 31st individually.

Individually, sophomore Kenneth Li shot the best for the Devils, ending with in 2nd place with a 142 (-2), one shot shy of first.

As our own Daniel Holland pointed out, the expectations were a lot higher this year.

“It’s a big relief. This year we were supposed to win. There was more pressure this year than last year,” Dolehide said.

In addition, the girls’ golf team finished 25 shots behind first place Mt. Prospect to place third in the class 2A state tournament.
