Chess gods go for state
As the end of the chess season approaches with a recent win at the conference tournament, the team is preparing for the upcoming state tournament. In the previous three years the team has had top finishes. Placing fourth in state last year, they are hoping to get a big win this year and get the title for the first time in school history.
“I’ve been on this team for four years and am delighted,” explained senior Peter Ren. “I really hope we can end with a bang by winning the state tournament. It would be awesome.”
At the state tournament, the the team brings 8 players and 4 alternates. The top 8 varsity players comprise of players from all grades. Each player will have 55 minutes on their clocks with a 5 second delay to make all their moves. They will be playing a total of 7 matches.
The chess team has been working hard all season, and hopefully, it pays off. Until then, the chess team can have satisfaction in the fact that they have already had a fantastic season. Come watch the team compete on February 12th and 13th! You may even be able to find the chess god there.
