Students begin Sports Club

Sports Club is a fun atmosphere where fans of any sport and team can discuss with their peers.

A group of students started a new Sports Club that had their first meeting on Thursday, March 9 in room 193. Around 25 students attended the meeting. Weekly meetings will be held before school on Thursdays under the supervision of Mr. Alan McCloud, the club’s sponsor. Nishant Vyas, junior, Armaan Sawhney, junior, and Kabir Sawlani, sophomore are the founders of the club.

The focus of the club is to allow fellow peers to express their interests and passions for sports. But, the club is composed of much more than just sports debating.

“There will be sports trivia, debate, bracket challenges, and actual sports play like basketball tournaments,” Vyas said.

Some students are happy to see the creation of the club so they can argue about certain topics in the sports world.

“The chance to argue my own opinion on different topics interests me,” said Steven Hayes, junior.

The club’s first event will be a March Madness Bracket Challenge once the bracket is released to the public on Selection Sunday, which is Sunday, March 12.

After looking through the list of clubs, Vyas, Sawhney and Sawlani realized that there was no club related to sports.

“I found [there being no clubs related to professional sports] very strange, so I took the initiative to make the club,” Vyas said.

Some students are looking to relieve stress and take their mind off of school by mixing in sports into their mornings.
“It’s a nice outlet from the stress of school for people who are interested in professional sports,” said Jack Lane, junior.

The club is happy with the success of their first meeting and are hoping for many members to participate in the tournament challenge in the next month.
