Football team wins game against rival LT
On Friday, Oct. 25, Central’s varsity football team faced its biggest rival, Lyons Township (LT), beating them 24-6. It was a home game and the stands were packed with students cheering from both schools. Poms and cheer performed during the half-time show.
The rivalry between Central and LT ignites friendly but intense competition between the two schools. During the week leading up to the game, both schools supported their teams by posting hype videos on their Instagrams to encourage students to go to the game.
This game marked the end of the season for the Red Devils. This season, the team mostly went undefeated with the exception of Glenbard West losing 17-20.
Junior quarterback Michael Brescia scored the first touchdown of the game, giving Central a head start. As the game progressed, Central maintained its lead with several touchdowns.
“I think a huge factor has been that Coach Griffin has done a great job leading our team and helping us achieve our full potential,” Brescia said.
It was also senior night for activities such as cheer, poms, boys golf, band and color guard. Seniors said that this night was important to them because it recognized their hard work and commitment for the past four years.
“For me personally, my parents couldn’t ever come to the games because something always came up. So they’d never see me perform but for the first time they came to see my game and it made me really happy,” said Sarah Lian, senior color guard.
After this win, the football team continues in the playoffs and will face off against Bolingbrook High School this Saturday on Dickinson Field at 6:30 p.m.
