Devils fall to LT 10-7
On Friday, Sept. 9, Hinsdale Central’s varsity football team faced off against Lyons Township at Bennett Field at 6:30 p.m. Lyons Township came out victorious, winning 10-7.
Friday night’s game marks Lyons Township’s first victory against Hinsdale Central’s football team since 2013.
“LT has always been a rivalry,” said Brian Griffin, varsity football coach and mathematics teacher. “They’ve grown up playing against each other.”
The closeness of Central’s football’s team is essential to its performance. Despite the outcome of the game, the team worked together, and a touchdown was scored by Reece Kolke, senior.
“We are like a family,” said Kolke, wide receiver on varsity. “We hold each other accountable and push each other to be the best players we can be.”
The rivaling teams had many fans come out to support their schools, resulting in each student section being filled to the brim. Students on both sides started arriving as early as thirty minutes prior to the game’s start time.
“Our student section was really high-energy,” said Francie Schmelka, senior. “The LT game always draws in a big crowd.”
The team is seeking a victory at their next game on Friday, Sept. 16 against Hinsdale South on Dickinson Field at 7 p.m. To view the rest of the team’s schedule, click here.
