Central hosts much anticipated Variety Show

On Feb. 1 and 2, Central students attended the annual Variety Show. The entertainment included dance and musical performances, some of which were original compositions, and was sponsored by Mrs. Karen Russo of the Business Department and Mr. Robert Russo of the Social Studies Department.

On the show’s first night, seniors who attended dressed up in a “redneck theme.” According to Sam Smalling, public relations manager for student council, Senior Night was very successful. “I thought [the theme] was the best one since we’ve gone here,” he said. “I was pleasantly surprised with the number of senior attendees and how many of us dressed up. The clothing was more tamed and less ridiculous than in years past, but the number of kids dressed up was about the same.”

In preparation for the show, Smalling was in charge of getting ticket sales set up during lunch periods and helped work the show on the second night. “We let the sophomores and freshmen work the doors on Wednesday, so the seniors could go that night,” he said. “The upperclassmen worked that Thursday.”

Overall, Smalling found the show to be a success. “Across the board, I’ve heard people say this is the best one they’ve been to,” he said. “Mike [Pircon] and Kevin [Kinahan] did not disappoint, and their videos were hilarious and kept the show flowing perfectly. The acts were incredibly entertaining from the dancers to the pianists.”
