On Sept. 21, Netflix released the 10 episode series, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” was released on Netflix. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the series stars Evan Peters as Dahmer alongside many other actors in place of the victims and their family members.

Based on the torture and killings of 16 victims, the show highlights the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who reigned terror near Milwaukee from 1978  to 1991, including a murder in Ohio. Notorious for eating parts of his victims, Dahmer was finally arrested and charged with the killings in 1991, but later murdered in prison in 1994.

The 10 episode series poses a nonfiction account of Dahmer’s murders. The story moves back and forth through different time periods in Dahmer’s life, from early childhood to his teenage years, and moves into adulthood and present day. However promising, the series has become quite controversial. Many claim the series humanizes  the serial killer through this new lense.

“I didn’t expect it to be so on point and graphic,” said Ava Elliott, senior.

The show itself does not take a particularly gory angle, but some parts can be hard to watch.

“After the first episode I was very disturbed and had to take a break from watching it for a couple of days,” said Livi Costello, senior.

In hindsight, knowing how Dahmer’s victims were truly dealt with can certainly leave you with an uneasy feeling. However, you are more so “teased” with the images shown, but you certainly get a pretty clear picture as to how the victims died.

“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” showcases new perspectives that  even those very familiar with Dahmer’s story might not have known of. If you’re looking for a true crime series to watch, this one is certainly not for the faint of heart, but highly recommended to at least start.

If you’d like to watch “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” it is available now to watch on Netflix.
