Varsity club decorated the school during the week leading up to the dance on Oct. 2.

On Oct. 2, Hinsdale Central held homecoming. With lights flashing and music playing, the students danced with one another and had an overall amazing night. Varsity club was behind this dance and worked these past two weeks to ensure homecoming week went smoothly by planning for decor, activities, and much more.

Varsity club is a club that helps to plan homecoming, and since homecoming is in the very beginning weeks of school, they were planning many different things at once from the spirit days, to decorations, to the parade float.

Since the homecoming of 2020 got canceled due to COVID-19, Varsity Club was unable to do what its club was most known for, plan homecoming. Since the club members were unable to experience what the club does in a “normal year”, this year they were given the opportunity to do so.

“It was a very different experience this year, being able to see the energy and creativity from everyone in person,” said Elena Koulouris, sophomore board member of varsity club.

The club’s two senior presidents, Maurice Tobiano and Sam Romberger, led the club as they organized the plans for each meeting. With the help of their board members, they were able to lead the others in the club creating activities to encourage the students to get excited about homecoming.

Throughout the whole week leading up to it, they sold Hinsdale Central spirit wear in the cafeteria as well as hiring a DJ for one day. They also encouraged the students to participate in a hula-hooping contest during lunch for ’70s day, a spirit day, to win a hippie-themed flower crown.

Hinsdale Central made it a mission to create a homecoming week and homecoming that every student would enjoy and were able to do so with the help of varsity club’s members. With homecoming over, varsity club will continue to help plan smaller scale events around the school in order to get the students involved in school spirit.
