GSA and PERIOD @ Hinsdale sell the crushes during the lunch periods Feb. 7 though Feb. 9, and deliver them on Valentine’s Day.

PERIOD @ Hinsdale and the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) hosted a “send a Crush to your crush” fundraiser on Feb. 7 through Feb. 9. During their lunch period, students could purchase a can of Crush soda for a dollar to be sent to the person of their choosing with a note attached on Valentine’s Day.

The two clubs teamed up to sell and deliver the cans of Crush to fundraise money for their cause.

“We are working with GSA so that we can raise money to buy medical and menstrual supplies for people who need them,” said Adele Groom, PERIOD co-president.

This fundraiser falls directly in line with the mission of PERIOD @ Hinsdale.

“PERIOD is a national organization that works to end period stigma and period poverty through advocacy, education, and service,” Groom said.

The “send a Crush to your crush” fundraiser raised money to purchase menstrual supplies for women in need.

This is not the first time that GSA and PERIOD have worked together.

“Last year, we also did a collaboration with PERIOD club selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts,” said Emerson Bolenbaugh, GSA president.

The Krispy Kreme sale of 2022 was a major success fundraising wise.

“We were able to pretty much fill up one of the PERIOD members’ cars with all sorts of supplies and notes,” said Peter Hutcheon, social worker and GSA sponsor.

Hutcheon said he believes that the “send a Crush to your crush” fundraiser this year was also very successful.

“I think we’re going to be able to purchase a lot of supplies with the cans that we have sold already,” Hutcheon said.

Students also seemed to like the Valentine’s Day concept.

“I think that it was really sweet to get to send cans of Crush and receive them from my friends with little notes,” said Emily Pope, senior. “It was a cute Valentine’s day treat.”
