The Women in Business Club is a newly founded organization which is ready to recruit members for the 2024-2025 school year. Meetings take place every other Friday at 7:20 a.m. in room 2205, or the multipurpose room.
Meetings consist of either a lesson in business and a student-created activity related to it or a visit from a local business woman as a guest speaker. Members of the club are able to connect with these mentors who can empower and inspire Hinsdale Central students.
“[In one meeting] we provided members with a bank of common interview questions to take with them to use in the future when preparing for an interview,” said Mia Herman, senior and the co-founder and president of the Women in Business Club. “Next meeting, we are having a managing director of JP Morgan come in to speak to us about her experience being a woman in the business field and her path to success.”
The club provides life lessons for girls to apply in their future personal and work lives, which the club sees as essential because of the fact that business is a male-dominated industry.
“[The club] is not just for the young women at Central who want to go into business, but into any field,” Herman said. “We have learned how to have good communication skills, how to apply to a job, how to build a good resume, have a good interview, how to exert yourself, have confidence, be a leader in the male-dominated workforce, etc.”
Students said they feel that the Women in Business Club fosters a safe and supportive environment where girls can freely express their ideas and learn from one another.
“[The club] has a good group of people where everyone gets along,” said Finley Korn, junior and the head of activities for the Women in Business Club.
“The girls often come in with their friends and have a space to communicate with each other about business or whatever is on their minds,” said Addison Griebenow, a senior and co-founder and president of the Women in Business Club.
The Women in Business Club tries to create a fun community for girls to be a part of.
“We get donuts for each meeting, which people always seem to enjoy, and play music while people walk in and get settled,” Griebenow said.
Even though the Women in Business Club is a new club at Hinsdale Central, it is looking towards the future, and club leaders hope more girls will join who are passionate about business or who want to learn valuable life skills that will enable them to prosper in the future.
