On Friday, Dec. 20th Disney released the highly anticipated “Mufasa” movie. A prequel to the beloved 2019 live-action remake, this film tells the story of Mufasa, the wise and noble lion who was tragically taken too soon in the original story. As well as Taka, the prince who later becomes known as “Scar”.
The film stars Aaron Piere as Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka.
Maya Reed, senior, said that she has seen all of the previous Lion King movies, including the new “Mufasa” movie.
“I have seen the new one, I think the storyline is really cool and it gives the backstory of Mufasa and Scar. And it is not as good as the Simba movie,” Reed said.
She also mentioned the creative music soundtrack in the new film.
Award-winning songwriter Lin Manuel Miranda composed seven songs for the film. The song “Tell Me It’s You” performed by Aaron Piere and Tiffany Boone who plays the lioness Sirabe is nominated for Best Original Song by the Academy Awards. The film is also nominated for best visual effects by the Academy as well.
Junior James Lane has also seen “Mufasa”.
“I’ve seen all of the Lion King movies before, and I think that this one was the best out of all of them. I loved seeing the relationship between Mufasa and Scar and how they became brothers,“ Lane said.
Lane also mentioned themes that he saw throughout the film.
“This movie focussed on themes of relationships and acceptance, and I think that’s important to the watchers,” Lane said.
And finally, freshman Lily Bier talked about the impact the character “Scar” left in the new movie.
“I wish there was a different storyline with the brothers. I think the way Scar became evil was not the way that I was expecting,” Beir said.
Bier also shared how she liked the difference in the new movie from the past.
“The new movie is definitely more modernized and I really like that,” Bier said.
This movie was full of many unexpected surprises and is a total of two hours long.
Mufasa will be available to stream on Feb. 18th on Prime Video, Fandango, Apple TV and more.
