Hit. Spike. Serve. Cure.

Rivals Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South girls volleyball teams participated Oct. 20 in the fourth annual Volley 4 The Cure, raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

The funds raised,  along with the money from the Powderpuff game the previous week, will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“After all of the expenses are paid, the money will be compiled into one check and sent to the foundation,”said Hinsdale Central varsity coach Sheralynn Kellough.

For a week leading up to the event, the teams made posters and sold t-shirts to gain money and awareness for the fundraiser. “It was hard selling t-shirts.  But it was for a good cause, so I enjoyed doing it,” said Ashley Marinko, Hinsdale Central junior volleyball player.

Kellough said that most of the fundraising is not done by the students, “The parents do most of the fundraising.  They contact businesses in towns to get support and donations for the raffles as well.  It’s really nice not having to place the stress of fundraising on the girls.”

Hinsdale South won the match.
