Red Devils splits weekend series against Glenbard West, Downers Grove South

On Friday, Jan. 21, Hinsdale Central played Glenbard West, ranked the best team in the state and number 15 in the country according to Maxpreps. The game took place at Glenbard West’s gym in Glen Ellyn, IL. Hinsdale Central lost, with the final score being 65-32.

Because of Glenbard West’s ranking and five Division I prospect players, they received large crowds, and the game was packed.

“It was tough driving out to support my friends to lose by that much, but in all honesty it was cool to see Glenbard play before they take their talents to the next level,” said Trevor Butkus, senior.

On Saturday, Jan. 22, The Red Devils evils came out with a chip on their shoulder, ready for a bounceback win. Hinsdale played Downers Grove South, an even and competitive game. Ben Oosterbaan showed up for the Devils, scoring 18 points, helping clinch the win.

“[Downers Grove South] has improved a lot and we did not play our best game against the zone but we played good enough to get the win,” said Ben Oosterbaan, junior varsity player.

Hinsdale Central took down the Mustangs 51-45, improving their record to 13-7 this season.

“It was a great win to get back on track to where our team needs to be. Plus it’s always fun to get a close win in front of a home crowd,” said Patrick Graham, junior varsity player.

The Red Devils have a rematch against Glenbard West on Thursday, Feb. 10, five days after the Hilltoppers will face off against California’s Sierra Canyon at the United Center.
