On April 24, the new movie based on the world-wide famous popstar Micheal Jackson, titled “Micheal,” launched in theaters globally. Many students at Hinsdale Central, aware of the legacy Jackson left behind, rushed to see the biopic on the big screen.
This film has already experienced major buzz through social media as fans and critics prepare for a closer look at the life of one of music’s most iconic and controversial figures. This film was directed by Antoine Fuqua and it explores both the ground breaking achievements and the complex personal struggles of the “King of Pop.”
Micheal’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, proudly plays his role, and the film has drawn attention for its unique casting choice. In the film, viewers have claimed Jaafar’s resemblance and connection to his uncle added a layer of authenticity to the performance’s shown.
“The movie was amazing, the fact that his nephew played Micheal’s role was so wholesome and he played it so well I almost forgot I wasn’t watching the actual Micheal Jackson,” said Rala Azim, freshman.
This film covers almost every key moment in Jackson’s career, from his early days with the “Jackson Five”, the band he had with his siblings, to his record-breaking solo success with albums like “Thriller.”
What fans like most about this movie is that it also addresses challenges Jackson faced with ongoing debates about allegations that surfaced during his lifetime. Many critics have questioned whether the file presents a balanced perspective or a more sympathetic portrayal, which has led to discussions in the media about how Hollywood handles sensitive topics.
“I loved this movie, I was familiar with all the songs and I especially enjoyed the Thriller performance. It was an exact replication of the music video… I was shocked to hear about the struggles Micheal Jackson faced. I always thought he was a flawless popstar,” said Zayna Asbahi, senior.
This movie dives deep into the unstable relationship Jackson carried with his very strict father. It shows how he grew up feeling lonely and even had to get pet animals to feel the support and comfort of friendships.
The entire movie is based on real life events in Jackson’s life. However, with it being a biopic, it does rearrange events, combine characters and create more dramatic scenes to make his life story more entertaining.
“I have not watched the movie yet. I am going first thing this weekend. My parents were huge fans of Jackson so I am excited to know more about his life and success… I heard through TikTok that it is mesmerizing and emotional,” said Ayah Sabki, senior.
As the movie remains in theaters it is expected to gain global popularity as people reminisce about the life of one of the world’s most famous pop-stars.
