Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to a statement released by his office on May 18th.
The medical evaluations were prompted by urinary symptoms and the detection of a prostate nodule. This form of cancer is fast-growing and serious.
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Biden’s medical team noted that the cancer appears to be hormone sensitive which allows for an effective management through hormone therapy.
“That’s a crazy, poor guy,” said Whitney Selman.
On social media, Biden expressed gratitude for the outpouring support stating, cancer touches us all… Jill and I learned that we are the strongest in the broken places.¨ Emphasizing the importance of resilience during challenging times.
“I think that is a really good positive attitude, especially when faced with something so hard,” said Brigid Noonan, senior.
The announcement sparked discussion regarding the timing of the disclosure with some critics suggesting it coincided with renewed scrutiny over Biden’s health and cognitive abilities. However, the medical professionals have pointed out that aggressive forms of prostate cancer can develop rapidly and may not present symptoms until advanced stages.
“It’s a serious illness that affects too many men, no one should lose their lives over something so traumatic,” said Leah Thoharous, senior.
