On Dec. 15-17, Hinsdale Central’s boys swim and dive team competed at Nequa Valley and York High School.

On Dec. 15-17, the 22nd annual Neuqua Valley Varsity Invite for boys swimming and diving took place at York and Neuqua Valley. Thirteen teams were invited to compete. Hinsdale Central’s boys swim team is heading into an intense season to prepare for upcoming meets, but this particular meet was important for a multitude of reasons.

“This York meet is really important to continue our undefeated season,” said Hank Newcomer, junior and varsity swim member.

Each year the swim team gains new athletes.

“We have a really strong returning team and added a lot of skilled freshmen,” said Holden Satre, senior and JV member.

Coach Robert Barber, head coach of the boys swim team since 2014, is also excited for this season.

“I’ve never had a team this talented or this deep which is exciting except it is also nerve racking because there’s not enough space for everybody,” Barber said.

The team won again on Saturday, continuing their undefeated streak. For the rest of the season, the team will be partaking in intense practices to hopefully prepare them for a state title.

“We will compete again on Jan. 6 and 7, and will have a conference in early February.” Barber said.
