Jack Hoiberg, senior, is a sports star, being a two-time golf state champion and a two-year varsity playing member on the school’s basketball team.

Hoiberg moved to Hinsdale two years ago and immediately contributed to the competitive environment the school’s sports teams provide. Hoiberg’s golf journey started when his dad introduced him to the sport.

“Golf is my dad’s favorite sport, so he got me into it at our country club [in Iowa] when I was little,” said Hoiberg.

This year, the Devils captured their fourth 3A state golf title with the help of Hoiberg and teammates Brendan O’Reilly and Matt Wingren. Hoiberg credits Coach Jess Krueger for making him a better golfer and teaching him how to incorporate the team aspect of golf.

“Jack led by example, displaying a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and good character,” said Coach Krueger.

Over the past two years Hoiberg’s teammates have been grateful for his golfing back ground and his positive attitude.

“Oddly Jack’s basketball experience helps him focus during a golf meet. If there is a distraction Jack stays focused because he is used to the loud noises during a basketball game,” said Wingren.

Hoiberg will continue his golf journey in college, committing to play golf for the University of South Dakota. The University of South Dakota has placed within the top ten in all of the invitationals they’ve participated in this year.

“I’ve always been told I have great potential in golf. I received a wonderful opportunity to play golf at [the University of] South Dakota that was hard to turn down. The school has a great golf program, and I really liked the coach,” said Hoiberg.
