Varsity girls team after their first place state championship.

On Saturday, Oct. 8 both the varsity golf teams took home state championship titles. The girls varsity team took 1st place, and the boys varsity team took home 2nd.

After taking a deeper look into the players on each team, it seems they certainly had fun. Let’s take a look at what they have to say about such an accomplished fall 2022 season.

Starting off with our girls team, we got an inside scoop to the state finals this past week featuring senior Sarah Thornton.

Q: How was it going into state?

A: “The team had a lot of fun and stayed calm even though we were in second place going into the final day.”

Q: What are some of the traditions or activities you do to bond during the season?

A: “Going to get food even if it’s just for a half hour was a really good way to get closer.”

Going to Chipotle was one of the many after match rituals for the team.

Q: Do you see yourself playing after high school?

A: “I’m undecided right now but I’m definitely going to be playing golf in the future. I love playing it so I’ll probably play it for as long as I can even when I’m older.”

Boys Golf featuring senior Peter Sakkos

Q: When did you start playing?

A: “I’ve been playing since I was 12-years-old.”

Peter, like Sarah, has been playing since middle school. This is similar to many other members of the team.

Q: Do you see yourself playing after high school?

“I will still be playing as much golf as possible.”
