Boys’ baseball hosts annual tryouts
The boys’ baseball team held their yearly tryouts which started on Monday, Feb. 27 and ended on Thursday, March 2 at the Diamond Edge Academy and the fieldhouse.
Tryouts, which alternated between before school and after school, included different drills depending on each player’s position.
“Infield worked on their hands and footwork, pitchers worked on their location, outfielders worked on drop steps and getting the ball around, while catchers worked on blocking the balls in the dirt with their body,” said Andrew Zapka, senior.
While tryouts are usually a stressful time for many players, others enjoy the atmosphere.
“I just really like to play baseball no matter the environment”, said Peter Mercurio, junior.

For students to find out if they made the team, they will meet with coaches after the four day tryout period to receive their results.
Coach Jason Ziemer is looking to create the roster that will give the team the best chance of winning. Many players have high expectations for the season.
“[I believe that] we will sweep Lyons Township, win conference, and make a state title run,” said Mitchell Mulvihill, senior.
Central will host their first game on March 22 against Conant High School and will follow that up on March 27 traveling to Trinity High School.
