At a local Starbucks on Nov. 12, a Peppermint Mocha in a festive cup was drunk by a student. The student is excited for the new winter flavors from Starbucks’ holiday menu.

On Nov. 2, Starbucks began to offer their winter menu to celebrate the coming season. Their holiday menu offers an array of seasonal beverages served in signature festive cups. While they continue to offer traditional drinks, such as the Peppermint Mocha, the company also launched the new Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai. Different seasonal foods, such as the Sugar Plum Cheese Danish, are additionally offered on the menu.

Peppermint Mocha

While some things in life are uncertain, you can always rely on the Starbucks Peppermint Mocha. The Peppermint Mocha is an indulgent seasonal beverage, combining the classic chocolate flavor with peppermint syrup and finished with whipped cream, making it one of Starbucks most popular drinks.

“The peppermint mocha gives me life. It’s a burst of flavor and gets me in the Christmas spirit,” said Diya Patel, junior.

If hot beverages aren’t your cup of tea, Starbucks also offers iced and frappuccino versions of the festive drink.

Starbucks introduced the Peppermint Mocha in 2002, and it is expected to continue its seasonal appearance for many years to come.

Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai

The Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai, previously discontinued in 2019, made a comeback to Starbucks’ winter menu.

The drink combines oat milk, chai, gingerbread and cinnamon, providing a sense of warmth in the cold winter season.

“The ginger mixed with caffeine causes the drink to serve as a pick me up, with a sweetness that isn’t overpowering,” said Daniel Gama, a Starbucks barista.

The Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai replaced last year’s Toasted White Mocha, as the Mocha had begun to lose popularity. However, it remains to be seen if the Chai will continue on the menu in the future.

Sugar Plum Cheese Danish

A seasonal spin on the original cheese danish, the Sugar Plum Cheese Danish adds a spiced sugar-plum spread to the top of the rich cream cheese filled danish. Introduced in 2018, the Sugar Plum Cheese Danish remains a crowd pleaser.

“The regular cheese danish is my go-to at Starbucks, but the [sugar plum] version is so much better and puts me in the festive mood of Christmas,” said Sonia Gupta, junior.

The spread combines cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg into a sweet plum jam, capturing the sweetness and warmth of the holidays.
