The York and Hinsdale Central High School varsity football game took place on Sept. 27 with Central losing 21-13.
These two schools have had a history of competitiveness against each other.
Peter Babagbemi, senior, said that the score affected the players after the game this year, and made them reflect on their training and practices in preparation for this.
“It was a third [quarter] and 1 goal situation, and we were down one score,” Babagbemi said. “Their running back ended up breaking four tackles to make it a 21-13 game.”
He also mentioned how the student section had an impact on how well the team performed this year.
“It affected us tremendously,” Babagemi said. “The environment was so loud I couldn’t hear anything on the field.”
Senior Leah Theoharous said trying to make the most memories at this historic game was her favorite part.
“[My favorite part was] being with my friends and cheering on our team, and getting to see the rivalry between York and Central,” Theoharous said.
Theoharous also stated that there weren’t as many people at this away game and that York High School had more team spirit than Hinsdale Central.
Nevertheless, she has been to multiple York vs. Central games, and has enjoyed them all.
Junior Niko Reveliotis said he also thinks it was difficult for the team to not have as many fans at the game.
“There was no one really there in support for our team, so I think it made it hard for the players to gain motivation, because unlike our home games, the stands are packed,” Reveliotis said.
Reveliotis also mentioned that most of the students who were there left at halftime instead of staying the full game.
The next varsity football game is an away game against Glenbard West on Oct. 5.
