Girls gymnastics hosts Kim Estoque Invite
On Saturday, Dec. 10, Hinsdale Central’s girls gymnastics team hosted the once named “The Red Devil Invite,” now named the “Kim Estoque Invite.” Some of the teams who participated were Lake Park, Oak Park River Forest, Downers Grove Co-op and Hinsdale South.
The four events which gymnasts competed on were vault, bars, beam, and floor. As girls gymnastics get deeper into their season, every meet is more high-stakes.
“The most important thing for this meet was to practice consistency on the events, and to do what we have been practicing,” said Audrey Austin, senior and varsity gymnast.
Natalie Kujalowicz, senior and JV member, said it’s all about how the gymnasts come together to rally around one another.
“As a team, it was really important for us to support each other as we compete, just like in any other meet,” Kujalowicz said.
Coach Kim Estoque, the head coach of the girls gymnastics team explained another reason why this meet was important.
“During this meet we host a food drive, and all the teams bring food and we give it to the most generous team,” Estoque said. “It is important that we give back to the less fortunate, especially this time of year.
Hinsdale Central’s team placed second at the invite. They were the runner up to Downers Grove Co-op. The next meet for the girls is the New Trier Invite on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11:00 a.m.
“[The New Trier Invite is] going to be hosting a lot of schools so we’re hoping to really dial in and do our best,” Kujalowicz said. “So far our team has been doing really well, so I hope that we can keep up the good work and keep having fun!”
