The Hinsdale Central boys bowling team season started in early November, and on Nov. 9, the team had an away meet against Naperville Central at Lisle Lanes. but they lost.
“The meet did not go well and we lost badly,” said Will Stamer, freshman.
The bowling team is open for all without any tryouts, and they practice at Suburbanite Bowl in Westmont. The team is run by Alex Hipskind, history teacher and Nick Gebhart, physical education teacher.
Because not a lot of people did not try out for bowling this year, the coaches allowed anyone of any skill level to join the team.
“I’ve joined this year because I like bowling, and I want to do it for fun,” said Joey Ackerman, senior on the bowling team.
Some members feel that the team is struggling to live up to last year’s group.
“We are not a very good team this year,” said Lucas Iwanski, senior on the bowling team.
There are only two teams this year due to the lack of people joining. The teams are varsity and junior varsity. There are about five people on each team, and their pin total will be counted for their final score.
The coaches help new bowlers with their form by working on their steps and looking at the arrows on the bowling lane. New bowlers are advised to take four steps; first step is with the right foot, second step is with the left foot, the third step is the right foot and then one winds up the ball to finally step again with the left foot and throw the ball.
The bowling team looks forward to improving as their season progresses.
