The Hinsdale Central girls gymnastics team is nearing the end of their winter season for the 2024-2025 year. Tryouts for the team took place on Nov. 11, and the first meet was on Nov. 27.
The gymnastics team competes in a variety of events including bars, beam, floor etc.
“I am an ‘all-arounder’ as a gymnast, which is something I really enjoy doing,” said Marin Kennedy, junior. “I recently started training bars again after a hand injury, so it feels good to be back on everything.”
Girls on the team have enjoyed the season so far and have improved their individual skills as a gymnast.
“Each meet we have consistently gotten better and scored higher,” said Lane Inabnit, junior. “I have also been upgrading skills which have increased my scores on floor and beam…most recently I placed first in the conference meet on beam which I am happy with.”
Members of the team have very specific personal goals that they want to complete before the season ends.
“Right now I’m focusing on consistency and form by working on routines with no falls or wobbles on my landing,” Inabnit said.
Since the winner of a gymnastics meet is based off of a score decided by judges, many of the gymnasts believe that raising the team score is important.
“Our team goals are to make our team receive a high score each meet,” said Olivia Bier, senior.
Some girls on the team have a specific score that they would like to reach on a meet.
“Our team goal is to reach a score of 135, which I think we can do because at our most recent meet we got a 134.1. If we keep on improving throughout the season, I think it is very doable,” Inabnit said.
The team is training to qualify for the upcoming sectionals and state meets.
