On Feb. 21 and 22, Hinsdale Central hosted the annual Variety Show in the auditorium. The Variety Show takes place every year in order to showcase the multitude of talents which Hinsdale Central students possess.

The show began with a comedic introduction hosted by seniors Anthony Annoreno, Marwan Shalaby, and Quinten Stromberg. Their introduction was followed by skilled performances by students including singers, musicians and dancers.

Preparing for the Variety Show required a lot of effort and outside work from all performers. Some performers, such as Sarah Delapeña, junior, who sang a cover of “Falling Behind” by Laufey, needed some outside help from friends to compose their performance.

“I knew the song from before,” Delapeña said. “I practiced a lot and I performed in front of my friends in order to prepare.”

For others, such as Kayla Liang, junior, who danced to “You & Me” by Jennie Kim, preparing for the show called for adjusting their material to include more original content.

“I performed a solo dance,” Liang said. “While preparing, I had to re-choreograph a lot of the moves due to it originally being a two person dance.”

In addition, for many students, such as Rishikar Gandham, sophomore, who played oboe in a jazz band cover of “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra, preparing for the Variety Show necessitated a need to learn how to balance their schedules as practicing for the show conflicted with schoolwork.

“This performance came so suddenly for me,” Gandham said. “The past week I have had a lot of competitions and a four day conference, so school combined with extracurriculars kind of influenced it [performance].”

In case you want to participate in more school events, make sure to be on the lookout for future events such as the Culture Fair, scheduled for April.
