The annual decision day at Hinsdale Central was held on May 1. Across the country, seniors celebrated where they were going to college as May 1 is the day when most colleges require students to fully commit to their college and pay the acceptance fee.
Students at Hinsdale Central enjoyed the day and celebrated each other’s success by wearing shirts with their college or career plans including cosmetology school and trade school.
Many students at Central had before school plans and activities with their friends to commemorate decision day.
“I arrived at my friend Maddie’s house early in the morning and my whole friend group was there. It was set up really cute,” said Ryan Baltazar, senior. “We had banners with all of our schools on them and banners with our baby pictures. We also had a quick breakfast with bagels and pastries.”
Other seniors had similar breakfasts with friends.
“For decision day I woke up extra early and had brunch at my friend’s house,” said Isabella Raines, senior. “We also took pictures and spent some time together at breakfast, and then drove around together.”
Students at Central loved seeing everyone dressed up for decision day and seeing what seniors’ future plans were.
“I loved walking in the hallway and seeing what colleges people are going to, especially since some of them haven’t posted on the decisions page yet,” said Franky Chemmachel, senior. “I thought it was really surprising and interesting, and it was also a great conversation starter.”
Other students at Central had similar opinions about the decision day shirts.
“I loved seeing where everyone was going, and was so happy to see everyone’s accomplishments,” said Raines.
Hinsdale Central also had activities set up for seniors during the school day, which many students enjoyed.
“There were activities going on in the commons like decorating a flag of your college which was really cute,” said Chemmachel. “Also multiple people came up to me and had me write down advice on a whiteboard for freshmen, which I thought was very wholesome.”
