Hinsdale Central’s main gym transformed into a stage of color, rhythm and tradition as students gathered for this year’s Cultural Fair on April 30. What began as just a simple school prep rally quickly turned into a vibrant celebration of identity, bringing together performances that reflected student’s diverse backgrounds within our community.
From the moment the music started, the audience was loud, excited and supportive. The Greek Club was among one of the performances, moving all in sync with their footwork and traditional music. Their performance was both energetic and fast paced.
“I love being in the Greek Club. I also love being able to represent my culture. I’ve been in the Greek Club for the past four years and I’m very sad I won’t be in it next year,” said Eva Minginas, senior. “I know I will definitely join clubs like this when I get to college. The best part about it was I was able to dance and represent my culture with my sister who is also in the club now.”
The Cultural Fair also included a dance from students in the MENA club. This club includes students from Middle Eastern and Northern African backgrounds. The performers were a demonstration of unity and pride. Using a blend of traditional music and more modern music made the atmosphere in the gym exciting.
“I love being able to represent my country and my culture and show everyone how proud all of us are to be a part of such an amazing club. I love every part of it and it’s always so much fun to be able to dance with my friends,” said Zena Attassi, senior.
The energy continued to build during a Bollywood dance performance originating in India. This brought a lot of energy. The dancers had lots of bright clothing and fast paced music. They were extremely coordinated and were drawing cheers from the crowd.
“Bollywood dance performances are always my favorite. I love all of the girls outfits, they are always so colorful and the crowd always gets excited. I loved watching all of the dances and all the different cultures. It was really amazing,” said Franky Chemmachel, senior.
Beyond these performances, the Cultural Fair created an atmosphere of connection and appreciation. Although only a few performances could be highlighted, every group that took the stage contributed something special. Each performance added to the overall experience, making the Cultural Fair an unforgettable celebration of diversity and unity.
The Cultural Fair continued into the evening that day with the full slate of performances for community members to attend.
