After the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Jimmy Kimmel made comments on his show about the death. He was then suspended indefinitely before being reinstated on Sept. 23 by ABC.
Jimmy Kimmel is best known for being the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which has aired on ABC since 2003. Kimmel has hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards three times, in 2012, 2016 and 2020, and the Academy Awards four times, in 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024.
Many students have either heard or watched The Jimmy Kimmel Show before, but some have never even heard of it.
“I have never watched the Jimmy Kimmel show but I am more familiar with the Jimmy Fallon show,” said Kate Eyen, senior.
But in relation to the circumstances surrouding his temporary suspension, some students said they believe that it’s OK to have freedom of speech, but in a respectful manner.
“I think that it’s OK to talk about what you believe in but I think it would be better if it was in more of a respectful way, rather than it being offensive,” said Elias Argyris, senior.
Some students said they believe that Jimmy Kimmel’s show should not be aired anymore, but others believe differently.
“I believe that even though the comment that Jimmy Kimmel made was disrespectful I don’t think that they should stop airing his show just because other people watch it for non-political reasons,” said Karina Miller, junior.
Due to the pressure from viewers and boycott of protesters, viewers protested the preemptions and the station owners realized that continuing the boycott would likely result in lost audience and revenue.
